Service overview

Which gas-safety inspection does a premises require?

The applicable duty depends on the client’s legal role, the premises and the gas installation in use. The annual landlord regime for relevant rented accommodation is distinct from the broader workplace duty to maintain gas fittings, appliances, flues and associated safety provisions in a safe condition.

Does every commercial site need an annual gas certificate?

No blanket annual certificate rule applies to every commercial premises. The employer or person in control must maintain relevant gas systems safely; the inspection, maintenance and documentation required depend on the installation, its use and the applicable duty.

How often does a landlord gas-safety check take place?

Where the landlord provisions apply, relevant gas appliances and flues must be checked at intervals of no more than 12 months. The landlord must retain the Gas Safety Record and provide it in accordance with the regulations.

Will the engineer be Gas Safe registered?

Gas work that falls within the registration requirement is allocated to a Gas Safe registered engineer whose current categories cover the specific fuel, appliance and type of work—not simply an engineer with general registration.

Can commercial kitchens be included?

Yes, subject to confirming appliance details, ventilation, isolation and the engineer categories required for that commercial catering scope.

What should I do if I smell gas?

Treat it as an emergency, not a quotation request. Turn off the supply if it is safe to do so, avoid flames, switches and other ignition sources, and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 for natural gas or the relevant supplier’s emergency route for LPG.
